Pocket Super Heroes!

The one Mego line I hadn't covered so far was their Pocket Super Heroes, which were produced in an attempt to copy Kenner's success with the Star Wars line!

pocketred_batman pocketwhite_batman.jpg

As you can see, at least two different cards on these!

pocketwhite_robin.jpg

I'm not sure why they only did Batman and Robin, and no Bat-Villains -- apparently the Superman characters got coverage this time because of the movie series!

popy_batman.jpg

Here's a bonus! It's a Popy Batman figure from Japan! Popy was another licensor from Mego!

More Megos???

Yes, a few more Mego items have turned up in my files!

palitoy_robin

Here's Palitoy's Robin figure -- pretty much identical to the Mego one, but with different card art. Palitoy had the license from Mego to produce in other countries.

pocket_penguin.JPG

Here's a loose Pocket Heroes Penguin above, and some more loose figures below (well, some of 'em may actually be Comic Action Heroes)...

pocketheroes_lot.JPG

We'll check out some Pocket Superheroes on the cards soon!

One more from the 1966 Montgomery Ward's catalog:

mw66_captainaction

And this from the 1967 catalog:

mw67_captainaction

You'll notice that the Bat Cave from 1966 is now part of 1967's Captain Action gear!

nycc_batmen

Just for the heck of it, here's a pair of Batmen from a New York Comic Con!

Monster Times Covers!

Here's a few Monster Times covers that had Batman appearing!

monstertimes07-notebay.jpg
monstertimes07-notebay.jpg
monstertimes25.JPG

The Monster Times was an all-too-short-lived 1970s publication that was printed entirely on newsprint, in a tabloid size. Because of this, good condition copies are hard to come by, and are pretty darn expensive! Sadly, there don't seem to be plans to reprint the publication at all... it had a really nice mix of articles on monster movies (natch), Star Trek, comics, and other geekery!

Hot-Line Phone, Joker Mask and Mego Bat-Coders!

marx_batphone

This Bat-Phone by Marx Toys may be my favorite Batman item that I don't have!

mask_joker.JPG

This Joker mask would, I think, freak me out if I were to see it in real life!

mego_batman_batcoders.jpg

What are Bat-Coders? Well, it's just Mego's cheaper packaging of Batman and Robin Walkie-Talkies!

Heroes World Catalog Pages!

Here's a few pages from Heroes World Catalog #1 that feature Batman products -- how many of these do you recognize from photos I've already run here?

Some more pages tomorrow!

More Megos and a Give-A-Show Projector!

What, you thought the Megos were all presented already? Au Contraire!

diecastbatman

Mego also did this Diecast Batman, part of a line that also included Superman, Spider-Man and the Hulk!

elastic_batman.jpg

Most ridiculous Mego Batman item? Probably the Elastic Batman, which you could stretch like Plastic Man (or, more accurately, Stretch Armstrong).

giveashow_superpowers2

As of the time I'm writing this, I still don't have this Give-A-Show Projector set in my possession... it would be the only US-released set that features Batman!

Comic Art!

detective457_cov_giordano

First up today, it's Dick Giordano's cover to Detective Comics #457!

detective471_10_rogers

And we follow that up with a rather hallucinogenic page 10 from Detective Comics #471, by Marshall Rogers!

detective473_cov_rogers.jpg

And here's Rogers' cover for Detective 473, which seems to harken back to Batman's first cover appearance!

joker2_30_garcialopez

And here's a bonus! It's page 30 from The Joker #2, art by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez!

Comic Art!

detective385_27_kane

First up today, here's page 27 from Detective Comics #385, art by Gil Kane. In my opinion, I believe Gil Kane drew the absolute sexiest Batgirl around!

detective412_27_heck

Here's another page 27, this one from Detective Comics #412, art by Don Heck. Both of these pages were from Batgirl back-up tales!

detective450_cov_simonsongi.jpg

And here's a great cover from Detective Comics #450, art by Walt Simonson!

Comic Art!

dcspecialdigest09_cov_andru.jpg

First up today, here's Ross Andru's cover for DC Special Digest #9! That was a great little reprint book, because not only was Batgirl's origin reprinted in it, so was Krypto's!

detective378_10_brown.jpg

Next up, here's page 10 from Detective Comics #378, art by Bob Brown!

detective380_pg18_giella.jpg

And from Detective #380, here's page 18, art by Joe Giella!

Super Hero Stamps and DC Special 27 Art!

dcshstamps_batman

Have I featured these before? I may have shown you a photo of the package, but not what the stamps looked like...

dcspecial27_08_lopez
dcspecial27_21_garcialopez

Above, you see pages 8 and 21 from DC Special 27, art by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez. This issue featured Batman and the Incredible Hulk, one of the DC/Marvel team-up books!

Party Invitations, Puzzle and Double-Vue!

You may be noticing that I'm featuring a number of items recently with Superman as well as Batman -- that's because I was using "WF" as a sorter in my file naming -- "WF" standing for "World's Finest," naturally, a book that (for the most part) featured Superman and Batman within its covers!

dcsh_wfninvites.JPG

These invites are way cool, aren't they? I wonder if I have high res versions of the art for these, because I might re-create them for one of my son's birthday parties!

dcsh_wfpuzzle

Some day I'll have to post a photo of the complete puzzle sold in this "oil can" style box -- you'll see that even though Superman and Batman share billing, Batman appears to be helpless in this situation!

dcsh_wfviewmasterfilms.JPG

Here's yet another movie viewer cartridge featuring Batman (as well as Superman), this was for View-Master's entry into the movie viewer field!
