I've said it before, and I'll say it again... I do not understand why there have been so many flying Batman toys made!

"Robot Raiders" Knock-Off Toy!

Click on this image for super-size viewing and look at the parachutist... obviously, it's intended to be Batman, even if the toy is called "Robot Raiders"!

Push Puppet!

This is a pretty cool-looking push puppet... although I'm guessing when you push the button under the base it just looks silly.

Press-Out Book!

This 1966 book should really be reissued... it's a great papercraft concept, and I keep hoping I'll stumble upon some blog or website where someone's scanned the pages so I can print 'em out and build these things myself!

Paint by Number Sets!

OK, so the last item isn't a paint by numbers, but it's close enough. I was never a fan of paint by numbers myself, mainly because paint brushes and I don't get along (which is why I'm not Alex Ross, among many other reasons). As you can see from the first picture above, unless you were a very good painter, your pictures wouldn't turn out nearly as nice as the box showed!

"Oil Can" puzzles!

One of the odd things in the 1970s was the emergence of the "oil can" style box for puzzles. Many puzzles were released in this style of container as well as a more standard box. I'm guessing the reason for the "oil can style" (so called because they're the same size as the old-fashioned oil cans, naturally) is that they would allow for more flexible display than standard puzzles. I've got photos in my files of all sorts of these, featuring other superheroes, monsters, Planet of the Apes, and more!

Batman Album and 8-Track Tapes!

OK, starting from the left... this first 8-track-tape is the Batman TV show soundtrack currently available on CD, which had previously been sold as an LP and cassette... I have to admit, I didn't know it came out on 8-track!

The album in the middle is a classic... the Marketts did this whole album of music, only the first track of which was from the TV show (and it was their version of the theme song), but it's well worth a listen, because there's a song for just about everyone, mostly instrumental except for one line of vocals, repeated over and over (the Robin song has the refrain "Robin, the boy wonder, Robin," sung over and over, while the Joker song has a Joker laugh all the way through it).

The 8-track on the right? Well, 2-track, anyway... that I have no idea about!

As much as I go on about the silliness of flying Batman items, I have to admit that I think I had this kite as a kid!

I have no idea if Husky had a license from Corgi to produce Corgi stuff under their own imprint or what... seems to me to be the only possible reason they produced this Batmobile and Batboat that looks to be from the same era as the Corgi ones!

Not too bad for gumball machine items, are they? I wonder how many different stickers there were?

Why someone thought a flying Batman figure was appropriate, I'll never know... I mean, yeah, it looks neat, but Batman doesn't have the ability to fly...



...not that it's stopped anyone else from manufacturing flying Batmans! (Batmen?) And these aren't the only ones, either!
